Twenty years ago, Alex and Anne Gough built their first bread oven in the
Sauer-Adams Adobe courtyard using ancient techniques described in a Sunset
Magazine article. Later that year they held the first "Bread Party," a tradition
of good food and good music that lasted until 1990 and rekindled last year, 2002.
In 2003, fresh baked breads from the outdoor adobe oven and local gourmet
cheeses and wines were featured highlights at a June fundraiser for benefit of
the Mozart Festival. The event was hosted by Alex and Anne Gough. Along with Anne, doing the baking was Tyler Kasunich, former owner and founder
of Popolo's Restaurant, who first learned to bake at Gail's in Santa Cruz. He and
Anne Gough crafted the recipies, which included some 20 varieties of bread,
featuring incredible gourmet pizza, homemade cheeses and local wines. Future
events are planned, and more details regarding Mozart Festival fundraisers are
available on line at www.mozartfestival.com, or call the Mozart Festival
Association office at 781-3008.
